These are the principles Miriam founded the practice on — and the things every member of the team is hired for.

Time

We give appointments the time they need. There is no such thing as a standard consultation when it is your pet. We listen first.

Fixed, published prices. No surprises. We tell you what something costs before we do it.

Stinger Anaesthetic Systems, a full in-house laboratory, digital radiography, water treadmill, stem cell therapy. We invest in the tools to do this properly.

We go at your pet's pace. Floor-level examinations, Feliway throughout, hello visits, familiar faces — these are not extras. They are how we work.

Miriam graduated from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 2010 and spent over a decade working in practice before founding The Veterinary Wellness Centre.

The Veterinary Wellness Centre opened in 2024, growing from a home visit service Miriam launched in 2021. From the beginning, her focus was on building a practice where comprehensive, unhurried care could be delivered properly — with the right facilities, the right team, and the time each patient deserves.

Miriam is a former trustee of the BVA Animal Welfare Foundation, a RAMP Council member, and Chair of BAVH — and the driving force behind TWC’s integrated approach combining conventional veterinary medicine with evidence-based complementary therapies.

She sees patients at Newcraighall and leads the clinical direction of the practice. On social media she is @twcvet.

Our story

How TWC came to be — from home visits to Edinburgh & East Lothian

2010

Miriam graduates from the Royal (Dick)

BVM&S from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Edinburgh. She begins her career in The Cook Islands, working for a veterinary charity, before taking a permanent position in a mixed practice in Falkirk.

2012

Cornwall

Miriam moves to Cornwall, developing her interest in elderly pet care and feline medicine. She marries John and becomes a mother in 2016.

2017

Back to Edinburgh

Miriam and family move home to Edinburgh. She works across a variety of practices — feline-only, emergency out of hours, small animal and charity practice — developing her interest in nutrition, herbal medicine and acupuncture.

2021

Botanical Veterinary Care launched

Miriam launches Botanical Veterinary Care, a home-visiting holistic veterinary service offering herbal medicine and acupuncture to patients across the Lothians and beyond.

2024

TWC opens

The Veterinary Wellness Centre opens its doors at Newcraighall, offering hydrotherapy and medical consultations.

2025

Full service

TWC’s surgical theatre, dental suite, X-ray room and hospitalisation facilities become fully operational. TWC achieves ISFM Gold Accreditation — the first practice in East Lothian to do so — and Zero Pain Practice Accreditation, the first practice in the Lothians to be awarded this.

2026

Cameron Toll — opening August 2026

TWC’s second location opens at Cameron Toll in August, bringing our approach to veterinary care to even more patients across Edinburgh.
