By the age of three, most dogs and cats show some degree of dental disease. Left untreated, this progresses — causing pain, difficulty eating, tooth root abscesses, and bacteria entering the bloodstream to affect the heart, kidneys, and liver.
The problem is that animals are very good at hiding dental pain. Many owners are surprised when a dental procedure reveals significant disease in a pet who showed no obvious signs of discomfort.
